Our fellowship-trained surgeons specialize in sports medicine, joint reconstruction, trauma, and advanced orthopedic procedures. Position Overview:
Redwood Orthopaedic Surgery Associates is seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant to join our orthopedic surgical team in a primarily operating room-based role. This position functions as a surgical first assist and integral member of the perioperative care team, with additional opportunities to support clinic operations and patient management.
This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with experienced orthopedic surgeons and gain advanced surgical experience in a collaborative, high-volume private practice setting.
Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as surgical first assist in orthopedic procedures including, but not limited to:
Arthroscopic procedures
Joint replacement surgery
Sports medicine procedures
Upper extremity procedures
Assist with hospital rounds when applicable
Coordinate patient care with surgeons, hospital staff, surgical centers, and clinical team members
Clinic Responsibilities (Secondary Role – If applicable)
Evaluate and manage orthopedic patients under physician supervision
Conduct preoperative patient evaluations and surgical clearances as appropriate
Assist with postoperative patient management and follow-up care
Provide patient education regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and rehabilitation
Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and tests
Assist with treatment planning and patient care coordination
Perform procedures within scope of practice and training
Document operative and clinical notes accurately and timely in the EMR
Conduct preoperative patient evaluations and surgical clearances as appropriate
Assist with pre and postoperative patient management and follow-up care as needed
Qualifications
Required:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current California Physician Assistant license in good standing
NCCPA certification
Current DEA license (if applicable)
Current BLS certification (if applicable)
Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment
Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred:
Prior surgical first assist experience
Orthopedic surgery experience strongly preferred
Experience in sports medicine, joint replacement, or trauma
New graduates with strong surgical interest and clinical rotations in orthopedics will be considered
